Where to stay in Bangkok? Ekkamai, Thonglor or Punnawithi

Ekkamai and Thonglor offer cafés, restaurants and shopping across neighbouring streets. Punnawithi combines residential side streets with the workspaces and dining of True Digital Park. All three are served by Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain. Where you will go most often, and the route between the station and the home, will help you decide where to stay.

Start with the places you will visit most

A workplace, regular appointment or people you plan to see several times can help narrow your choice of area. Someone going to True Digital Park each day will have different priorities from someone spending most of the week around Ekkamai and Thonglor. Check transport options for the times you expect to travel, including the route from the main road to the home.

What would you like nearby?

Think about the parts of a day you would like nearby, such as coffee, a place to eat or somewhere to work. You may also want a kitchen and enough room to spend an evening at home. Soi is the Thai word for a side street, and a home’s position within one can matter as much as its neighbourhood name.

Cafés, meals and shopping in Ekkamai and Thonglor

Ekkamai and Thonglor have cafés, restaurants and shops spread through the smaller streets. DONKI Mall Thonglor is on Sukhumvit 63, while theCOMMONS is in Thonglor Soi 17. If these places are part of your plans, consider how you will travel between them and the home you are looking at. Our neighbourhood, café and DONKI guides give more detail on the individual stops.

Everyday life and work in Punnawithi

Punnawithi is worth considering if your trip includes work or meetings at True Digital Park. The park has free Tech Open Space and separate paid coworking options, explained in its own guide. Beyond the complex, cafés and meals around Sukhumvit 101 offer everyday stops. A home’s exact address still matters for the journey to the station, work or a meal.

The journey beyond the train station

Thong Lo (E6), Ekkamai (E7) and Punnawithi (E11) are on the BTS Skytrain’s Sukhumvit Line. Station count is only part of the journey. Include travel from the home to the station, the connection at the other end and the return trip with luggage or after an evening out. If steps or crossings affect your travel, check those parts of the route before deciding.

From choosing an area to choosing a home

First choose the area that suits your plans, then look at the home’s size, beds, bathrooms and stairs. A neighbourhood you like and a layout that works for everyone are both part of a good choice. The area guides below give more local detail, and Our stays brings together the homes and their practical information.

Useful questions

How should I choose a neighbourhood in Bangkok?

Start with the places you will visit most often, the daily routines you prefer and the people travelling with you. Then compare the full journeys and the rooms, beds and stairs of each home you are considering.

Is a home near a BTS station enough to decide?

The station connection is useful, but also look at the route from the station to the home and the onward trip to your destination. Luggage, steps and the time you return can all affect that journey.

Is Punnawithi always quieter than Ekkamai or Thonglor?

Punnawithi has residential side streets as well as a busy main road. Ekkamai and Thonglor also vary from street to street. Look at the particular home and its surroundings rather than choosing on a neighbourhood label alone.
